Welcome to the IAATO Press Office
We aim to create engaging, educationally enriching communications with which to share and explain to work of IAATO, advocate and promote the practice of safe and environmentally responsible travel to the Antarctic, and create a corps of ambassadors for the region.
The IAATO Communications Team manages all media relations for the organisation, from creating and issuing press releases and developing blog content to sharing updates about robust new operational protocols, the latest visitor figures, research and citizen science initiatives.
We facilitate interviews with members of IAATO, give background briefings on issues relating to responsible tourism operations in Antarctica, and support media organisations with digital media requests.

Today is #WorldMigratoryBirdDay! ๐ฆ Meet the Southern Fulmar (๐๐ถ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ข๐ณ๐ถ๐ด ๐จ๐ญ๐ข๐ค๐ช๐ข๐ญ๐ฐ๐ช๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ด). These birds breed along the Antarctic mainland and spend much of their lives gliding over the cold southern seas. During the non-breeding season, they can be found in warmer waters off the coast of South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and South America. The Southern Fulmar and many others remind us that migration connects not just species, but entire ecosystems. ๐๐๐ ๐๐ผ๐พ๐: They can drink seawater, using a special salt gland to stay hydrated in salty environments. ๐ธ polar_madi

In addition to Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting Measures, Recommendations, and Resolutions, IAATO members are required to adhere to all of the association's operating guidelines and established protocols, which are designed to promote safe and environmentally responsible operations in Antarctica.
