Holland America Line

Holland America Line

In April 2023, Holland America Line celebrated 150 years of service in the passenger and cargo shipping business. Presently, Holland America Line operates 11 passenger ships providing luxury cruises throughout the world with primary focus on Alaska, Caribbean and European sailings. HAL's ships also visit Canada, New England, Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Hawaii, South America, and the Panama Canal. Every year, Holland America Line also conducts at least one World Cruise. The itineraries, which include visits to the Antarctic, have become showcase voyages with our seasoned guests. In 2023, Holland America Line will host over 800,000 guests on its ships worldwide. The growth of Holland America Line is the result of careful fiscal stewardship combined with attention to providing guests with the destinations and excellent experiences they seek in travel. HAL’s extensive experience in providing travel has also led to recognition of the need for applying forward thinking solutions when bringing modern technology to an increasingly fragile ecosystem. To fulfill this need, in 2006 Holland America Line became certified to ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management systems. This certification ensures that Holland America Line has documented and auditable management systems in place by which we build environmental protections into our maritime operations. Holland America Line was the first major cruise ship operator to become a full member of the International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators (IAATO) (www.iaato.org), an organization devoted to the safe operation of Antarctic tourism, with which it has been associated since 1997. As such HAL vessels adhere to IAATO guidelines during any Antarctic tours; accordingly, references to pertinent IAATO materials are incorporated by reference throughout this document. Holland America Line has developed a computer-based training course on Whale Strike Avoidance. For this effort, HAL received NOAA’s 2006 Marine Stewardship Conservation Partnership Award for taking the initiative to develop and promote the adoption of whale avoidance measures as the international cruise industry standard. HAL has made its avoidance measures and training program available to the public and cruise line industry to promote the adoption of this stewardship practice.
