Daven Hafey

Director of Operations

Daven’s introduction to the polar regions was Alaska’s North Slope in 2005.  Since that point, he’s organised his life around the Arctic and Antarctica.  He began his career in the polar expedition industry in 2015 and spent 10 years onboard ships, working many full Antarctic seasons from late October through the middle of March, experiencing the progression from spring to summer to fall.  In the field, Daven worked as a Zodiac driver and guide, senior staff trainer, assistant expedition leader, and expedition leader on more than 150 total voyages in both regions.  Shoreside, Daven has worked in both operations and product development specific to Antarctica and the Arctic.

Prior to the Polar Regions, Daven worked in land and resource management with the US National Park Service, field ecology and research in Alaska and Zambia, and freshwater habitat management and policy in Alaska’s capital.  He holds his US Coast Guard Master 100 Tons credential and has spent more than 2,000 days as captain of numerous boats on North America’s west coast from Washington State to the Bering Sea, focusing primarily on humpback and killer whales in tourism and collaborative science.

When not working, Daven enjoys reading, trail running, travelling, and building custom furniture.  He and his wife, Olivia, split their time between a small island in Washington State and the Northwoods of Wisconsin.
