Kim has been working in the polar regions for over 35 years, originally researching for her PhD on environmental management of Antarctic tourist landing sites. Subsequently, she lead expeditions to the Arctic and the Antarctic for several IAATO member operators before joining the IAATO Secretariat for 12 years, eventually as Executive Director.  In 2016, Kim was awarded the Polar Medal for her environmental management and conservation work in both the Arctic and Antarctic, and had a small point on the Antarctic Peninsula named after her. Today Kim chairs the board of Noble Caledonia Ltd, an IAATO operator, as well as the boards of two IAATO associate members, Salén Ship Management and United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust.
